From this tutorial, you will learn how to create a simple background and how to add some text. By using the Appearance panel, you will learn the how to work with several fills and effects and also linear gradients. Finally, you will learn how to copy text multiple times and how to easily adjust them.

Step 01 : Create a New Document

Press Ctrl+N to create a new document. Select Pixels from the Units drop-down menu, enter 1000 in the width and 600 in the height boxes, and then click that Advanced button. Select RGB for the Color Mode, set the Raster Effects to Screen (72 ppi), and then click Create Document.

Step 02 : Create the Background

Pick the Rectangle Tool (M) and focus on your toolbar. Remove the color from the stroke and then select the fill and set its color to #020202. Move to your artboard and simply create an 1000x600 px rectangle. Make sure that it covers your entire artboard as shown below.

Step 03 : Create the Text

Pick the Type Tool (T) and open the Character panel (Window > Type > Character). Select the No. Seven Regular font (or any bold font that you prefer), and set the size to 100 px and make it white.

Step 04 : Create the First Text Effect

To stylize the text, you need the Appearance panel. If you don't find it, then go to Window->Appearance Panel. You need the color panel also. Follow the same method to get the color panel.

Now in the Appearance panel, add a new fill using the Add New Fill button and set the fill color with #cc5e00.

Then by keeping this fill selected, hit the fx icon and set the offset path as shown as below.

Step 05 : Create the Second Text Effect

Repeat the Step 04. But this time set the color as #3c2100.

Step 05 : Create the Third Text Effect

Now add new fill with the color #fff200. After that, again add a new fill and this time use the linear gradient shown below (Window > Gradient).

Step 06 : Shear the text

To shear the text, select the text and go to Object->Transform->Shear and set the shear angle -10o vertically.

Step 07 : Add Another Text

To add this style to another text, simply duplicate this text and change your text and font. If you want to resize the text, then you have to expand the style first otherwise it will give you a unwanted result. To expand the style, go to Object->Expand Appearance.

Wow! This is the final result.
